Methodology

How DGeo Green evaluates and indexes local brands for sustainability

Evaluation Framework

Every brand in the Lokal Brand Index is evaluated against three pillars. A brand must demonstrate strength in at least one to qualify for inclusion.

Pillar 1: Halal Certification

Products

Brands must hold MUI (Majelis Ulama Indonesia) halal certification, coordinated through BPJPH (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal). This guarantees:

  • Clean production facilities free from non-halal contamination
  • Safe additional materials (fertilizers, nutrients, packaging)
  • Post-harvest processing meets Islamic principles
  • Regular audits of raw materials and production processes
  • Tourism (Wisata Halal)

    Hospitality businesses must provide:

  • Halal-certified food services
  • Muslim prayer facilities (musholla/sajadah)
  • Muslim-friendly hospitality and amenities
  • Clean, hygienic accommodation
  • Pillar 2: Green Energy

Brands must demonstrate use of clean, environmentally-friendly energy (energi bersih/ramah lingkungan) in their operations:

  • Renewable energy sources for production
  • Reduced carbon emissions vs. conventional processes
  • Sustainable operational practices
  • Environmental ecosystem protection
  • For tourism businesses: 24-hour electricity availability via green energy systems without ecosystem damage.

    Pillar 3: AI Technology Integration

Brands must integrate AI technology in consumer-facing services:

  • AI-powered customer service chatbots (24/7 availability)
  • AI marketplace technology for e-commerce
  • Digital ordering and booking systems
  • Instant response communication for consumers, distributors, and resellers
  • Verification Process

  • Data Collection — Brand information is gathered and structured
  • AI-Assisted Curation — AI technology verifies and cross-references certification claims
  • Public Audit — All data and curation processes are published to the open repository for transparency
  • Continuous Monitoring — Brands are periodically re-evaluated for ongoing compliance
